From dry cakes to the flickering taste, there are so many aspects that one has to look after when they are making a fruit cake. Although it is not an easy thing to get everything right at the first time, you can follow some tips to make the process easier and tastier. Here are some of the secret tips that you can follow while baking the fruit cake.
Baking of a fruit cake is indeed a time consuming process. You have to cook it in advance before you use. Cooking it one month before serving would be great as it adds a lot of taste and gets the perfectly required texture. Storing the cake for at least one month is necessary and you can keep it like that for more time too if needed.
The fruit cakes are designed for a longer shelf life so there is no need for you to worry about how the cake will be. You can just relax and keep it under the normal temperature for four weeks. After the completion of four weeks, you can keep it in the freezer. Keeping the cake in normal temperature for a certain amount of time will give it a mellow structure.
You have to take ample amount of time before you start making the fruit cake. Prepare the nuts, fruits and pour the liquor that you want to use on them. Let that mixture stay for three or four days. Then proceed with the batter.
Do Not Bake At More Temperatures
Fruit cake is a lot different than the normal cakes and you shouldn’t cook it at higher temperatures. The maximum temperature at which you can bake the cake is 325 degree Fahrenheit and do not go beyond that. Always keep a bowl of water in the lower rack of the oven while baking the cake. This will prevent the cake from drying. Make sure to cover the inner side of pan with parchment paper and outer side of the pan with brown paper. These papers will keep the cake edges from burning.
After you are done with the baking, test whether the cake is done or not with the help of a knife or a cake tester. Insert it in the center of the cake and take it out, if you get any dough then the cake is not done or else it is done. When the cakes are cooled, remove them from the mould and take out parchment paper. If you are not planning to decorate the cake, then it is better to keep it in the cheese cloth. Sprinkle the liquor that you want on the cloth, be it wine or any other liquor and seal the cakes in either plastic bag wraps or in plastic storage bags. Keep brushing the cakes once a week with liquor.
